I know.

So my tweet regarding a (hopefully) 10-day juice cleanse sparked a bit of curiosity from many! What am I doing, why am I doing it. There’s always the “THOSE ARE TERRIBLE FOR YOU” people, you know, the ones that have never done it but some TV doctor said they were terrible. I dunno. Here’s my take and reasoning…

It’s not something I should have even tweeted about. It’s honestly not something I push and advocate for, nor do I want to lose all credibility as someone who LOVES food. Trust me, I already got the, “you write a food blog and you don’t even eat” shit.

Would I EVER do a 10-day juice cleanse if I didn’t have to be in a bikini…sometimes only half a bikini….in highly circulated magazines? Holy shit, NO. I love my body. Well, I love my in-clothes body. Loving your bikini bod is a whole other ball game. And getting in a bikini when you just completed 3 weeks of not just eating but FEASTING every single day is a little daunting to say the least.

Now, I LOVE CURVES. I’ve said it before and I will say it for the rest of time. But that, unfortunately, isn’t how my body operates. Weight that I put on from loving food doesn’t distribute into the Kardashian-like teenie waist and bodacious ass. Chrissy’s version of curvy results in TSA agents patting me down and saying, “Ooo!” as if I’m about 4 months along. It’s just a…poof in my belly. Skinny legs. Skinny (untoned) arms. And a poof in the belly.

My belief is that this results from 2 things. One — not working out enough, plain and simple. Two — being on a low carb diet means you know cheese and fat is a-okay, ย therefore you eat a shit ton of fat and dairy and I 100% believe that dairy goes straight to the waistline.

So that’s all. I am juicing to rid myself of that cheese-weight in the middle. To get rid of that feeling of overall “blah” in the midsection. Am I doing it to slim that area down? Fuck yeah. Anyone who says they are juicing “to rid the body of toxins” is either a fucking liar or they love raw veg juice to levels that I don’t really care to understand.

I don’t think I’m fat. I know I’m not. But I do know I feel gross and my body could use some real, raw nourishment. And since I am just an all-or-nothing kind of gal, this is what I’ve picked. A 10-day BluePrint moderate cleanse. It consists of 3 green juices a day, 1 spicy lemonade, 1 pineapple, and one delicious cashew milk drink. 6 juices a day. You can read more about it here.

I remember when I was living in a model’s apartment in South Beach. It was a two-bedroom that my old agency had packed 5 girls in. I actually was in the early days of dating John and can still remember us trying to make out on my little twin bed in a room with white walls, one plastic red lamp and those plastic vertical blinds that clank together when you so much as breathed on them. Anyhow, one of the other girls had told me about the “master cleanse” which I’m sure you’ve heard of — that one is literally ONLY DRINKING ONE KIND OF DRINK FOR A WEEK. A mixture of water, maple syrup and cayenne. I used to make mine SO extra spicy so my belly would forget to send me hunger signals. It was a really, really terrible thing to do. I did it for Miami’s swim fashion week, it did the job, but wow, the weight came back quickly and angrily within DAYS after I stopped.

The Blueprint cleanse is great because it provides all-around nourishment. You are consuming around 20 pounds of fruits and vegetables (well however much juice that would make at least) every single day.

Am I getting paid for this? No. Not even a discount. Do I know what I am doing? Not at all. They send the juice. I drink the juice. I feel pretty damn good aside from just missing chewing something. I just drink the juice to halt what I’ve been doing to my body for the past few months. (Get. Out. Of. Me.). But I will try and keep you in the loop (here, NOT TWITTER. people who tweet about cleanses are assholes yes I am an asshole) IFFFF you care.

I know we all have different beliefs about this crap so I refuse, REFUSE to push this on you. And I hope you can do the same for me if you completely disagree with what I’m doing. I’m doing it. Damn my love of food and career choice. Oil and water. Don’t hate me. Don’t hate me.

And if you’re wondering, yep, I am trying to work out on it too.

I should put a food countdown clock on this blog…think I’ll work on that now. I tried to plan my Thanksgiving menu (GO GET BON APPETIT AND FOOD NETWORK MAGAZINE RIGHT NOW FOR THANKSGIVING ISSUES) but duh, it’s a little hard to read about my favorite holiday during these…these trying times.

    I think its great that you are trying to do something healthy for yourself! I think a lot of us were curious because we are also food lovers yet everyone no matter what they say wants to look good and who better to hear a personal circumstance from than a swim suit model! I cant imagine having the self control to do this so good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚ you’ll have to let us know if it makes an actual difference!

I honestly need to do something like this myself, and I’m not a model, and no, I do not hate my body, I just feel weighed down and have been cooking a lot = eating a lot.     Chrissy – after the juice cleanse – look into Paleo. I went through the same issues- low carb but still loading up with cheese, and dairy in general. Paleo is essentially meat, veggies, fruit & nuts. Personally – I love to still be able to eat bacon and steak, and be very lean. It might not work for you, but it’s definitely worth looking into I think b/c it’s a sustainable way to live. (and still get in a cheat meal every now and then!)

    I did blueprint cleanse awhile back and it was AWESOME! I’m do juice cleanses all the time, at least every season change. juice fasting will loosen stored up toxins and since you aren’t elminating after around day 3/4 I would highly suggest a colonic at the end if the fast. they are so necessary! Gravity East in the east village is great.

    i personally love the honesty what i find frustrating is girls lying saying they eat cheeseburgers all day long and still look great in a bikini
    it’s nice to know that you have to work for it and make some sacrifices
    thanks for the blog post
    and i’ll tell you what’s unhealthy eating too much not just physically but mentally
    i would know ever since I’ve gained weight my life and the people in it have been completely different

    I think it is totally fine to love love love food and understand that you have to scale it back sometimes. I’m not a model, but I totally get it. I don’t think anybody who reads this would accuse you of having an eating disorder. Its work and its shitty, but on the other side there will still be great food to cook and eat. Good luck!

    I do a Blueprint Cleanse before every vacation I go on and it works wonders, I have only done a 3 days cleanse and wanted to eat solid food so bad after three days so I cannot imagine 10 days. Definitely keep us updated on how the 10 days go, I wont judge, I have my wedding coming up in December in Jamaica and I was going to do one before I left but maybe I could do longer than 3 days depending on how it goes for you ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good luck, Chrissy! Be careful working out – I think it’s okay to take it easy during these 10 days – you won’t have very much energy. Would actually love to see a brief recap each day of how you feel – I know some days can be easier than others, but I’m curious to see when the good, healthy feeling hits.     I’ve done the 3 day Blueprint cleanse and minus the green drink, it was awesome. I wasn’t hungry (though I missed chewing) and I felt so good after it was done – my skin looked like butter and I felt really lucid. The only downside was I didn’t lose weigh… But I also mixed tequila with the pineapple & mint juice. Whatever! The shit was amazing. Either way, you will feel amazing when it’s over.

    While I’ve been told that cleanses that are more than three days can do damage to the liver (that comes from my best friend who’s an emergency room nurse), I can only imagine the pressure of having to be in top shape and appearance for a photo shoot as a professional model, so I don’t think anyone can blame you for doing this. Your post is clear and thoughtful, and I have to think any displeasure expressed at your news is mostly out of concern for you.

    Whatever. You don’t show up and people’s homes demanding why they are eating XYZ for dinner so why should they get all riled up about something you’re doing for yourself?? People need to worry about their own bodies before they start attacking other people. I personally feel like a cleanse is a great way to to de-bloat, so I totally feel ya…but I’ve never attempted a 10 day – good luck!!

    Gurlllll I love you so much! Thank you for being so honest. I have heard of this cleanse and was actually very curious about it and will be very interested to read your straight talk on it. I’m most curious about the “slow reintroduction of solid foods” they recommend after you’ve finished (that’s the only thing that scared me a bit about it). Please make sure to write about that ๐Ÿ™‚

I myself am laying my my couch rather inebriated from wine, thus having the courage to write this comment. I read your blog, follow you on twitter and Instagram and love to catch any and every article I run across that mentions you at all. I just find you so real and amazing and not afraid to speak your mind and hey, if I had your life I would be the same way.     Hi Chrissy,

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a low-carb diet post. I’m thinking about starting a low-carb diet inspired by you. I would really appreciate it if you could please describe in detail what you eat as meals and snacks while you are low-carb (is fruit ok? do you recommend avoiding diary). Also why is low-carb your diet philosophy? What would you look like if you ate all the carbs you wanted? How has it changed your body? Now of course I can do all the research I want on this online but I would appreciate your honest and snarky input.

      I won’t be starting this low-carb diet till January so don’t feel rushed to write this post (if you even care, lol) Why am I starting in Jan? definitely not a new year’s resolution, no. I’m a broke college student and I don’t have the budget to refurbish my carb filled pantry and fridge.

    I did the master cleanse for 9 days once. i did it for weight loss but i actually had lots of energy on it. but yes, the weight comes RIGHT back. but damn your stomach is sooooo flat on a cleanse. good luck love!

    I love how true you are being about sharing the little insecurities that I know I have the same problems with! I am such a foodie and actually went to culinary school too and gain all the weight right in my abdominal area and I hate it more than ANYTHING.     You are completely honest Chrissie, that’s why so many people love your writing. It’s so much more helpful than actresses and models who pretend that it’s all effortless. I am for the most part happy with my body in clothes too but I know the panic that sets in before a beach holiday when you think about hanging out in not many clothes all day in public. I can only imagine the panic if it’s your job to wear a bikini and you will be in photos seen by millions!

    Best comments on the drink cleanses I have seen good luck!! Am trying the soup and fruit diet for 1-2 days a week all you have in a day is a bowl of soup and fruit seems bearable as you can eat normally for rest of week. Not sure if the people who dreamed up the diet understood what normal is for me but I’ll give it a go and if anyones interested and I remember I will let you know how it goes. I think the dairy think is interesting, basically we are omnivores, like bears etc, not a lot of other omnivores eat dairy, well not other than hoof and all so maybe its not really designed for us, which is a real pain as I love cheese.

It’s not as if you are binging and purging (and God bless the poor souls cursed with that) but really. Juice cleanses have been around and I work in the healthcare field and have never heard a DR say one is bad, as LONG as you follow a system, uh like you’re doing.     I love the Blueprint Cleanse. I do it to reset my eating habits when I feel like I’m getting carried away and I don’t lose as much weight as people would think. You are still getting over 1000 calories per day whereas the Master Cleanse gives you around 300. Good for you for being honest. Drink a ton of water and keep us posted!!! I actually read recipes constantly dreaming of my next meal, like a rehabbed sex addict watching porn.

    Welp, this makes my life a heck of a lot easier…I JUST STARTED my cleanse today! No joke! My husband thinks I’m a total loon, but now maybe if I tell him my “friend” Chrissy is doing one too he’ll think it’s more normal haha. And yes, we talk about you as if you are my actual friend. I have been going NUTS on the food/beer/wine and overindulging in every single bit of it – football season tends to lend itself to throngs of our old college friends planting in front of the tv at our house – which is a blast!! And also brings with it, oh I don’t know, home made potato skins, fried chicken, buffalo wings, nachos and cheese, cheese, cheese….so while I was wary at first (but…but, there’s no FOOD!) I’m on board with taking a “time out” so to speak and getting myself sorted out before I am too far gone down the path of “oh dear god why don’t any of my pants fit!?” Thanks for letting us know that even models have to work at this shit. And thanks for being hilarious about it! ๐Ÿ™‚

    You are hysterical and I love it. My sister and I always talk about doing the Blue Print Cleanse, if only it were in my budget ๐Ÿ™‚ I might really look into it.     Dude anyone who tries to act like they do juice diets for any reason other than to lose weight is fucking lying or maaaaaybe just delusional. I’m a lot like you (um minus the model part) – all the way or none at all. Case in point: http://www.noraleah.com/post/24543229178/a-day-in-the-life

    I do juice diets (refuse to call them ‘cleanses’) or Tracy Anderson’s baby food diet every once and awhile and I’m first to admit it’s cause I’m vain. I’d rather indulge and then pull all the way back than have to be constantly vigilant, ya know?

    I have the same logic…..of course my plan always begins super ambitiously as a 10 day juice diet (ok that’s a lie…5 day juice diet). And then I justify the shit out of a 3 day juice diet. All the while justifying eating raw veggies, plain salads, almonds and last but CERTAINLY not least wine throughout all 3 torturous days. So turns out, I really don’t do juice diets at all I guess!

    There are worst things for the body and worst ways to lose weight. Juice cleansing is not one of them. People who diss it are usually afraid or jealous. you’re eating/drinking real foods as opposed to bars or chemically diet stuff, who cares.

    I appreciate how honest you are about what you REALLY do to cleanse and lose weight. I love food too and love to cook but I have to limit the carbs (all grains really) because it was also starting to affect my health. Good luck with your cleansing. Love your blog and tweets!
