I miss school.

Although it was definitely different for me to be buckled down in one place, standing in one spot for 3 weeks (I can hear a collective “fuck YOUUUUUU” from those of you with actual jobs), I really do miss my condensed, mini school. I miss both of my instructors — I don’t know how I got so lucky to be paired with two women who love food, have insane senses of humor and know their shit. I miss Cliff, the designer of my unique “fuck, she’s only here for a few weeks” program. A man who could talk about any one food subject for hours on end and never bore you. I miss the bustling kitchen and popping my head into different stations, annoyingly asking, “WHATCHA DOOOOOOIN?” to a neighbor making something my nose couldn’t resist inquiring about.

So, was going through all the photos, and here are some of my favorite kitchen moments, for no good reason…

My Megan. Sarcastic and smart. My two favorite things. Not to mention just wonderful.

After making a ridiculous amount of food each day, all you want is for someone to come enjoy it. This was my someone.

My first perfect pie crust. Quiche.

Beef Wellington.

Steak au Poivre

The perfect scallop. With miso-cilantro butter.

I love tweezing so naturally I loved this.

Salt-crusted fish.

That crispy fish skin makes me tingly.

Pasta day.


It broke. And so did I.

Butternut squash ravioli with brown butter and sage sauce. AND OH PANCETTA.


This photo just got me pregnant.

It was sweet. Spicy. Salty. It was everything.

Squid ink pasta with crab, scallops and jalapeño pesto. Dishes like this are why I love food.

    That buttenut squash ravioli justs melts my taste buds and my heart. Just saying the word butternut makes me hungry! Thanks for taking us on this journey with you. I so know what you mean when you say…all you want is for someone to enjoy it….I also have my John and he makes my successes and my failures in the kitchen so deliciously wonderful!

    so happy that you had the opportunity to do this!!! oh my goodness I think my bf is scared Ia m gonna quit my job and go to cooking school just to be like “my girl Chrissy”. Yup he’s def sick of me having to explain that your not someone I have actually met. lol this all looks fabulous and I can’t wait to see/read more. Living vicariously through you girl!!

    i love good food, i enjoy eating but i never really cared about these great dishes are made. but since i discoverd your funny and witty blog, your love for food aroused my love for making food… i want to cook like you chrissy or even better and have fun doing it. you make it look like so easy. Have you seen Junior Master Chef Australia?? WTH?! Those kids put me to shame. i feel so pathetic, like what have i done for the last 20yrs of my life.

    I would miss that, too! In the pie crust photo, you seem to be pricking the crust with a fork. Did you pre-bake it that way before filling it? Did you still have to do the whole foil and pie weights thing or can you just prick and bake and then fill? Thanks!

    Just love you, love your blog.
